What is personal information?
Personal information is any information about an identifiable person other than the name, title, business address or telephone number of an employee of an organization.

What Personal Information Does Azure collect?
Azure may collect personal information regarding you when you voluntarily provide it to us using our Site, or any other means that We may make available to you from time to time.  For example, We may ask you to provide personal information, such as your full name, mailing address, telephone number and email address if you:

  • purchase a subscription to Azure Magazine;
  • register for a contest or other promotion that We may offer;
  • register as a user of this Site;
  • participate in a review, survey, a consumer research panel, or similar type of activity;
  • ask to receive online information from us; and/or
  • otherwise participate in features of our Site that ask for personal information.

In addition, if you purchase or otherwise request a product, publication, or promotional offering from us you may be required to provide your payment information (such as a credit card number) in order for us to process your request.

Why does Azure collect personal information from you?
We collect personal information from you only for the purposes we identify to you at, or prior to, the time we collect such personal information. We do not require any personal information in order for you to view or navigate the Site.

Where the collection of personal information is necessary for us to provide the services you have requested, for example, when you subscribe to receive Azure Magazine, sign up for our newsletter, register for the Site, or contact us with a question, you will know because the purposes for which your personal information is collected will be identified to you. For example, we may collect, your name, mailing address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address and postal code and, if necessary, financial information such as, your credit card number(s) and expiry date(s) for subscription and billing purposes. To take advantage of MyAzure and other user generated content sections of the Site, you must first register on the Site.

If you are a subscriber to the print and/or edition of the magazine, Azure may rent your personal information to direct-response mailers for the purposes of providing you with information about products or services which may be of interest to you. You can choose to opt-out of this service when entering your personal information on our subscription form, or you can withdraw your consent to this at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. If you sign up for the Azure newsletter or register for the Site, we will not rent your name or email address.

We will not collect more information than is necessary to provide you with the services you have requested.

Does Azure collect or use information collected from you with technology?
The Site collects some information about you using technology. For instance, once at our Site your IP address is collected so that We may track how many visits we have had by separate devices to our Site. The IP address which we collect is often associated with the place from which you enter the Internet, like your Internet Service Provider (ISP), or your company. This information is not personally identifiable. We may use anonymous IP addresses collected through the processes described above to analyze trends, run and improve the Site, and gather anonymous demographic information for aggregate use.

We also use a feature called “cookies” which identifies your browser to us each time you visit our Site.  None of the information collected through the use of Cookies is personally identifiable.  We may use and disclose this aggregate information to affiliates and other third parties to measure the use of our Site and to improve our Site.

Some of our third-party advertisers also use cookies on our site. This is generally used for geo-targeting purposes or to collect aggregate information regarding user activity on our Site.

We may also use a technology called a clear gif to collect aggregate data regarding access to our newsletter; however, we do not collect personal information regarding readers in this manner.

How does Azure use the personal information it has collected from you?
We will only use the personal information you provide for the purposes for which it was collected and which we disclose to you. We may collect personal information for the following purposes:

  1. To fulfill all matters related to your subscription to Azure Magazine, including any billing requirements and providing you with your subscription;
  2. To correspond with you to advise you of updates and news, to respond to your questions or comments and/or to send out brochures, special features and other information related to Azure Magazine or our company.
  3. To provide you with our email newsletter. We note that the email newsletter registration form is strictly optional.
  4. To provide you with notification of design-related events and offers.
  5. To customize the advertising and content you see.
  6. If a user chooses to send us a reader comment, to: [email protected], we may store these comments along with the users personal information, if provided. Subject to Azure’s discretion and the user’s consent, a user’s comments, as is or as may be edited, may be posted on the Site.
  7. To carry out any other purpose that we disclose to you at the time of collection, and to which you consent.

To whom will Azure provide your personal information?
Subject to the following exceptions, your personal information is used solely by Azure.

 

We will disclose personal information to third parties only as follows:

(a) to third party service providers with whom Azure has a contractual agreement, which includes appropriate privacy standards and who do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information other than for the following purposes: (i)  for the delivery of subscriptions and related materials, (ii) to process credit card information for billing purposes, (iii) to perform functions such as data processing, database services or information technology support; and/or (iv) for marketing of Azure’s products or services;

(b) to third parties where the subject user consents to such collection, use or disclosure, or as required or permitted by law;

(c) to third parties to enforce our Site’s Terms and Conditions of Use,  to protect the safety and security of visitors and our Sites, or to protect our rights, safety or property; and/or

(d) as needed if such information is requested by law enforcement agencies or if we are requested to do so by law, regulation, court order, or by a government entity.

We disclose to third parties only as much personal information as is required to perform the task they have been retained for.  We will share personal information only with those who have agreed to follow policies that share our high standards of privacy protection, in compliance with the applicable law.

Some or all of the personal information that we collect may be stored or processed outside of Canada, including in the United States, whose data protection laws may differ from those in the jurisdiction in which you live. As a result, this information may be subject to access requests from U.S. governments, courts, law enforcement officials and national security authorities in the United States according to United States laws.  Subject to these laws, we will use reasonable efforts to ensure that appropriate protections are in place to maintain protections on the personal information that are equivalent to those that apply in Canada.

We note that we may also share anonymous aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person. We also reserve the right to transfer all information to our successors in business in connection with a sale, transfer of our stock or assets or a new joint venture.

What about third party personal information – refer a friend emails
If a user elects to use our referral service for informing a friend or a family member about our Site or a promotion(s), We will ask them for the friend or family members’s name and email address. Azure will automatically send the friend or family member a one-time email, on your behalf, inviting them to visit the Site. This email will identify you and that you requested it be sent on your behalf. The friend or family member’s name and email will then be deleted from our database.

You may only use our referral system to refer friends and family from whom you have received permission to provide their email address to Azure. You may only refer friends with whom you have had a two way communication within the past two years, and who you have met in person. You may only refer family members to whom you are related by blood relationship, marriage, a common-law partnership, or adoption.

Does Azure collect personal information from children?
We are committed to protecting the privacy of children under the age of 13.  For that reason, we never knowingly solicit, collect, store or disclose information via our Site from children under 13 years of age and, no part of our Site is structured to be directed to individuals under the age of 13.  If a child under the age of 13 wishes to disclose to us personal information, he/she must provide us with his/her parent’s or legal guardian’s e-mail address so that we can obtain express consent from them.  If a child has already provided us with personal information, his/her parent or legal guardian may contact us using the contact information provided below, for the purpose of correcting or deleting such information.  We encourage parents of children under the age of 13 to regularly check and monitor their children’s use of e-mail and the Site.

Please be aware that Azure is not responsible for these third party websites and that this Policy no longer applies. This Policy applies only to personal information collected on this Site. What type of security does Azure provide?
We regard the security of personal information to be of paramount importance. As such, We have taken technical, contractual, organizational and physical security steps to protect the personal information collected from you on the Site with a level of security appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information collected. Personal information we collect is maintained with the source of the information in Toronto, Ontario, and may be stored on servers located in the United States.  Only our authorized employees who require access to your personal information in order to fulfill their job requirements will have access to your personal information. Your Azure profile information is protected by a password for your privacy and security. To protect against unauthorized access to your password and to your computer, sign off once you have finished using a shared computer. Our security measures are periodically reviewed and updated when deemed necessary.

What about notification of changes?
Azure reserves the right to modify or supplement this Policy at any time. If we decide to change this Policy, we will post those changes on our Site so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we may disclose it. Azure will seek an individual’s consent if it seeks to collect, use or disclose his or her personal information for purposes other than those to which the individual has consented unless otherwise required or permitted by law.
