AZURE Appoints New Editor and Executive Editor

Danny Sinopoli and Elizabeth Pagliacolo charged with shepherding publication through its fourth decade.

Azure has a new editorial team at its helm. Danny Sinopoli, who joined the magazine as senior editor in 2017, has been appointed editor-in-chief, effective June 1. Elizabeth Pagliacolo, who held a number of editorial positions at Azure from 2003 to 2014, returns to the brand as executive editor.

Nelda Rodger, who co-founded Azure in 1985 with Sergio Sgaramella, will continue to serve as editorial director and chief content officer. Sinopoli succeeds Catherine Osborne and will be Azure’s third editor since its founding 33 years ago.

“I am honoured and thrilled to be shepherding this vital architecture and design resource through its next incarnation,” says Sinopoli, who has held senior editing roles at a number of leading publications, most recently at The Globe and Mail from 2007 to 2015. “Our aim as a team is to make Azure even more indispensable to working architects and designers across all of our platforms, including print, online, social media and events.”

In addition to helping shape the magazine’s content, Pagliacolo, who served as director of programming at Toronto’s inaugural EDIT: Expo for Design, Innovation & Technology in 2017, will lead on content creation for the brand’s Azure Talks series and spearhead the integration of its digital platforms into content development.

“It’s great to be back – and to be evolving the AZURE Talks program and our digital platforms with a fantastic team,” she says. “We’re exploring every exciting way to engage the international community.”

Since its launch, Azure has earned a global reputation for journalistic excellence, fostering an international perspective and multidisciplinary coverage that distinguish it from other design media. Earlier this year, it was nominated for the National Magazine Awards’ Grand Prix: Best Magazine, in the special interest category.
