Designer Playlist: Odile Decq

The French architect, who just established a new school of architecture in a part of Lyon where she’s led on redevelopment, shares what she’s reading, watching and listening to.

Watching  Jean-Luc Godard’s Le Mépris presents a genuine contemporary life situation set in the most iconic architecture ever designed and built by a non-architect, Curzio Malaparte, in the middle of an incredible coastal landscape.

Reading  A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. I have always been fascinated by black holes, the cosmos and its limitlessness.

Listening  The first movement of Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony in C influenced the rhythm and energy of the BPO facade, our first important project, in the late ’80s. I also love AC/DC (“Thunderstruck” is pure radical energy), and Joy Division, whose sophisticated and intelligent blend of punk and goth music created its own world at the end of the ’70s.
