Designer Playlist: Daniel Libeskind

The renowned architect, recently selected to design the National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa, shares his favourite book, film, music and working tool.

Reading  Shakespeare’s Hamlet. I must have read it 100 times. It’s about whatever you’re experiencing, both visible and invisible, and, finally, about imagination.

Watching  2013’s The Great Beauty, by Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino, is fantastic. It captures the eternal dilemma of a country of immense beauty, but which has suffered so much from corruption.

Listening  I love the Goldberg Variations, played by Glenn Gould. He transmits Bach’s mathematical, mythical mind in his performances.

Working  Paper by FiftyThree has liberated me to draw in an unlimited way. I was transformed from a normal architect into a ghost-like practice: I can do it from the air, almost anywhere in the world!
