What does the future of the bathroom hold? Tile and sanitary ware manufacturer Cotto taps the imaginations of young designers.
For its third annual Another Perspective project, Thai company Cotto called on 10 groups of emerging architects and designers from across the Netherlands, Portugal, Japan, Thailand, France and Germany. With Space of Beauty as the theme, the teams were asked to dream up beautifying, pampering bathroom pieces that incorporate Cotto products. Here are a few of the concepts that emerged, which were exhibited during Milan Design Week.
1 Morning Dew by Studio WM
Wendy Legro and Maarten Collignon of Rotterdam were inspired by the soft lines of Cotto’s Glacier tiles for this dressing table and stool. When it’s not in use, a frosted lid covers beauty products and makeup.
2 Embelli by THINKK Studio
Decha Archjananun and Ploypan Theerachai of Bangkok created an elegant series of decor pieces by combining luxurious materials with textured tiles from Cotto.
3 Dressing by Atelier2+
The Bangkok studio endeavoured to strike a balance between a bathroom and a dressing room with this wooden cabinet. Along with a mirror and a ceramic sink, it features hinged doors that lend privacy.
4 Osiloi by Rui Pereira and Ryosuke Fukusada
Named for the white powder used by Japanese maiko (apprentice geisha) to cover their faces and necks, this collection incorporates natural bamboo and a cushioned seat, encouraging one to devote time to the beauty ritual.
5 Stand-Up by Thomas Schnur
Germany’s Schnur looked to history, when the washing area was part of the kitchen, for his side tables that can be used anywhere in the home, from shower to living room.
