In the Oberbergen countryside, Judith Benzer Architektur has built a barn-style home that will have oenophiles green-eyed.
Designed as a summer home for a single family, the pitched-roof structure is clad in a striated shell of larch wood slats. The durable, waterproof and rot-resitant wood also forms a large patio. The windows are covered in operable shutters; when open, they double as canopies.
The home boasts first and second storeys built entirely out of untreated timber. The main floor houses the typical amenities. The master bedroom is furnished with a timber-framed bed, bookended by built-in closets with two glass doors leading outside. Adjacent is the bathroom, while the living space is on the other side. The modestly furnished kitchen and dining area are also on the ground floor. A sculptural ribbon-like staircase leads up to a child’s bedroom. Perhaps the most impressive section of the home is the basement. In addition to a wine cellar, there is space designated for wine production.
