The Milanese designer’s products and projects are on display at the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto.

Matteo Ragni – Almost 20 years of design, an exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto, explores Ragni’s work as a product designer and as an art director for several Italian companies. The products – including such diverse objects as eyeglasses, wallpaper, and a unique spoon/fork designed together with Giulio Iacchetti that was awarded a Compasso d’Oro – underscore the designer’s clean, understated aesthetic and playful approach.

As an art director, Ragni collaborates with sector leaders, such as producer of engineered wood Alpi, and Camparisoda, for whose 80th anniversary he created a bottle and exhibition, as well as other objects.

Toronto is fortunate to have two exhibitions authored by Ragni taking place contemporaneously. The Design Exchange is featuring 100% TobeUs, an exhibit he curated of wooden toy cars by 100 all-star designers.

Just two decades into his design career – a time frame that for maestri the likes of Castiglioni and Sottsass would be barely the beginning – Ragni is just coming into his stride, demonstrating the talent and dedication that augur much more to come.

Matteo Ragni – Almost 20 years of design continues at the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto until January 31, 2014.

100% TobeUs continues at the Design Exchange until February 9, 2014.
