For this year’s Das Haus at IMM Cologne, Czech lighting designer Lucie Koldova interprets a way of contemporary living that places an emphasis on light and ambience.

IMM Cologne, the first annual furniture tradeshow of the year, kicks off on Monday January 15, and with it, the ever-popular Das Haus installation. Now in its seventh edition, Das Haus every year invites an international designer to craft a space that reflects their personal take on future living. For the 2018 iteration, Czech lighting designer Lucie Koldova will reveal a space where lighting rather than furniture plays the dominant role.

Parsed into five distinct rooms radiating around a central living space, Koldova’s approximately 180-square-metre house concept emphasizes how lighting influences our moods and emotions. The five holistic themes Koldova explores through her finely crafted lighting layouts are sleep and relaxation, meditation, bathing, inspiration and dressing, with each intended to elicit a specific feeling while also performing a practical function for everyday living.

Dubbed “poetry in glass,” Koldova’s Das Haus will also highlight the centuries-old tradition of glassblowing that her home country is renowned for. Anchoring the main living space, the proverbial heart of her home, is her Puro pendants for Brokis (the Czech-based lighting brand where Koldova serves as artistic director), reimagined in a suspended campfire-like composition, while in the bathroom an all-glass washbasin will be installed. Das Haus will also showcase a number of new designs by Koldova that will surely exemplify her unique approach, a balanced blend of femininity, sophistication and curiosity.

Complemented by a palette of soft, soothing colours and shapely furniture pieces – a smooth pebble-like modular sofa designed by Koldova herself, along with curated pieces from designers she admires – this year’s Das Haus promises to provoke a sense of calm and offer a serene escape from the bustle of the showroom floor.

Das Haus will be presented in the Pure Editions area (Hall 2.2) during imm Cologne, January 15 to 21, 2018.
