1 Uni Flame by Radius Design
Condo dwellers, fear not – there are options that allow you to safely bring live flames into an enclosed environment without a chimney. Radius Design’s Uni Flame makes an excellent substitute for a fireplace, and can be used outdoors as well. It runs on clean-burning ethanol, and burns up to four hours without needing a refill.
2 Hiti by Antrax
The rounded corners of Simone Micheli’s Hiti radiator for Antrax give it a feel that’s simultaneously retro and futuristic. The modules can be mounted horizontally or vertically, and an optional towel rack makes Hiti suitable for bathrooms. Rounded corner pieces lend an installed series of modules the appearance of wrapping around sharp angles.
3 Milano by Tubes Radiatori
Forget blending into the background. Milano’s sinuous sculptural forms are meant to take the spotlight. The painted steel elements comprise stacked modules, allowing them to be manufactured to different heights. The completed pillars can be heated with water or electricity, and are available in freestanding and wall-mounted models.
4 B-Fire by Tulp
Tulp’s B-Fire collection includes steel-framed fireplaces in a wide range of heights and widths, and can be set into walls or project into a space with wraparound glazing. A double-burner model gives the gas-fueled flames added depth and height, which combine to convincingly mimic the look of a wood-burning fire.
5 Puzzle by Runtal
The specially coated horizontal panels of Runtal’s Puzzle – available in staggered or matching lengths – do more than just emit a gentle heat (ideal for warming towels). They also hold magnets, and can be written on with chalk and cleaned with a damp cloth, like a chalkboard, making the unit alternately playful and useful, depending on the setting.
6 Cap by MCZ
MCZ’s Cap is fuelled by pellets, an efficient source that allows these freestanding stoves to radiate warmth for 28 hours at the lowest setting. The electric ventilation fan, efficiently distributing heat through up to 200 cubic metres of space, employs a special technology that counteracts internal vibrations to ensure noiseless operation.
7 Tetro by Bisque
If old-school is your thing, Bisque offers the Tetro line of radiators, in the style of a classic rad. Unlike traditional cast-iron models, Tetro is constructed entirely from recycled aluminum, clocking in at one-sixth the weight, and offering faster temperature changes.
